The Feminine Mystique

This altered book/story box structure was inspired by a period of transformation and exploration taking place in my life: the approaching birth of my son. The structure utilizes The Feminine Mystique, written by Betty Friedan and often credited with jump starting the contemporary women's movement, as a container for its content. The book in its altered form and the story box held within specifically reflect ideas about the ever-shifting state of one's identity, both physical and intellectual, especially during times of great personal change. The altered book/story box is housed in a slipcase structure and utilizes decorative paper, found objects and objects of personal significance to the artist.
