The subject of this book was the exploration of the typography of Jonathan Barnbrook and Zuzana Licko, two of my favorite typographers. The body copy typeface is Mrs Eaves, header typefaces are PrioriSan and Journal, and typefaces used as art elements are Manson, Echelon, Lunatix, Matrix and Hypnopaedia. The full title of the book, Reflective/Refractive: the Typography of Jonathan Barkbrook and Zuzana Licko, refers to my belief that typography is not a passive material, but rather an active one through which the artist’s ideas, thoughts, beliefs and influences can see and be seen. In a sense, it is a lens that is both reflective and refractive, giving visual meanting to literal words, creating an experience for the designer as well as the reader.
